Moving a Piano Is Not a Job for a Standard Removals Team
A piano is not just heavy: it is sensitive, awkward to manoeuvre, and easy to damage if handled by people without the right training or equipment. Whether it is a cherished upright that has been in the family for years or a baby grand that required specialist installation when it first arrived, moving it safely takes skill and preparation.
At Roy Trevor, we have a dedicated team trained specifically in piano removals and other specialist items. We carry out a full survey before moving day, bring the right equipment as standard, and handle every piano as if it were our own, because we know what it means to you.
Accreditations
We are experienced in piano removals for all types
We move all types of domestic and professional pianos across Cheshire, Warrington, and the wider North West.
Upright Piano Removals
The most common household piano, but still weighty, awkward around corners, and easily damaged without the right approach. We use purpose-built piano skids and padded boards to protect the casing and keys throughout the move. Your upright travels secured and upright, not on its side, not balanced in the back of a van.
Baby Grand Piano Removals
Baby grands require partial disassembly before they can be safely moved. The lid, pedal lyre, and legs are removed, wrapped individually, and transported separately. The body is placed on a piano board and moved using specialist equipment. Our team reassemble and position the piano at your new address.
Concert Grand Piano Removals
The largest and most complex piano move. Concert grands require careful planning around access routes, door widths, and staircase clearance — all confirmed before moving day. If there is a challenge with access, we will tell you before we arrive, not when we get there.
Other Specialist Items We Move
Our trained team handle a full range of specialist items that need more than a standard removals approach.
Grandfather Clock Removals
A longcase clock cannot be moved intact. The pendulum, weights, and movement must be removed and packed individually before the case is transported. Our team dismantle, pack, transport, and correctly reassemble grandfather clocks at your new home. These are irreplaceable pieces, we treat them accordingly.
Antique Furniture
Older joinery, fragile veneers, marble tops, and inlaid surfaces all require very different handling from modern furniture. Every antique piece is individually wrapped using specialist packing materials. For items of significant value, we offer a bespoke timber crating service for additional protection during transit.
High-Value Artwork and Gilt Mirrors
We have years of experience transporting original paintings, sculptures, statues, and gilt-edged mirrors. Framed works are wrapped in acid-free tissue, cornered, and blanket-wrapped. Specialist crating is available on request for the highest-value pieces.
Chandeliers
We build a bespoke suspension crate for chandeliers, a custom timber frame with a hanging bar so the chandelier travels exactly as it hangs, cushioned with polystyrene throughout. We coordinate with your electrician on timing so the piece is packed immediately after it is taken down.
Snooker and Pool Tables
A full-size snooker table cannot be moved in one piece. The slate bed is removed, heavy, fragile, and typically in three sections, and the frame fully disassembled before transit. We handle disassembly, slate transport, and reassembly. Re-levelling may require a specialist table fitter depending on the age of the table, we will advise at survey.
Mercury Barometers
Mercury barometers cannot be transported at an angle of more than 45 degrees and require specific preparation before any move. Our team are trained in the correct handling procedure, a specialist skill that not all removal companies offer.

How we’ve helped our clients move

The company has had the same team member for literally decades - always in-house crew and never subcontracted. THANK YOU ROY TREVOR FOR YET ANOTHER FABULOUS MOVING EXPERIENCE

Only a couple of things were damaged, which is much better than previous moves with other companies. This was handled quickly and professionally.
The packing service was excellent—they covered mattresses and sofas very well, took great care with fragile items, and reassembled beds efficiently.

I am especially grateful to the Roy Trevor super-heroes, Stuart, Alex and Eamon, who not only worked incredibly hard but also provided an outstanding service.
If I could award a prize, it would go to Stuart for his team leadership, logistical planning, and exceptional customer support, making the move a less stressful experience for me.
Please pass on my appreciation to the team.

2 months of chasing post move.
Was originally advised by customer service rep that I would need to pay a deposit to get boxes to pack and that secured my mov3 and fee. It took 10 months for my chain to complete which then Roy Trevors charged an additional premium regardless of what I was told over the phone and invited to read my terms and conditions, I explained what I was told and that they would listen to call, investigate and get back to me they never did. With move impending I had no choice.
Items were damaged after delivery, was initially told these werent covered, when infact within the T&C they are to £40 per item.
Sent multiple emails with no responses which I believe is quite unprofessional regarding compensation for damaged items within their T&C.
Had to call today to finally get an update.
And lastly the floor in my previous property on move out was badly damaged by removals team, photographed but cant even be bothered to waste any more time.
Wont be my first choice if I move again not very happy with the overall experience.
Frequently asked questions
Will my piano need tuning after the move?
Yes. This is almost always the case with acoustic pianos, regardless of how carefully the move is handled. Changes in temperature and humidity during transit affect string tension. We recommend waiting 4–6 weeks for the piano to settle into its new environment before booking a tuner.
Can you move a piano up or down stairs?
Yes. Navigating staircases is something our specialist team handles regularly. Depending on the configuration, we may use a stair-climbing dolly or manual carry technique, confirmed at survey stage before moving day.
Can you move a piano through a narrow hallway or awkward access?
In most cases, yes. We plan the route in advance and raise any access concerns at survey. In the rare case where access is genuinely impossible, we will tell you honestly at survey rather than attempt the move and risk damage.
What other specialist items do you move?
Alongside pianos, our trained team move grandfather clocks, antique furniture, high-value artwork, gilt mirrors, chandeliers, snooker and pool tables, and mercury barometers. If you have an item that needs specialist handling, contact us and we will advise.
Can you move a piano to Europe or internationally?
Yes. As part of our European and international removals service, we can transport pianos across Europe. We have operational depots in Malaga, Spain and Lagos, Portugal, and a worldwide network of certified agents for international moves.
How much do piano removals cost in Cheshire?
The cost depends on the type of piano, access at both properties, and the distance of the move. Call us on 01925 630441 or request a free quote for an accurate, itemised price with no surprises.
