Money saving tips for your home

Whether you are saving for a new home, moving house, or want to watch the pennies in the run up to Christmas, we have some money saving tips for you.

This time of year can certainly be costly.  With Christmas on its way it can be expensive all round.  But there are a few things you can do to help save some money:

Bulk buy

With most supermarkets offering great discounts it is a wise idea to buy in bulk.  Obviously only buy the items you will need and use, but bulk buying can certainly help to reduce the costs of your household shop overall.

Energy saving

Energy saving light bulbs are a great way to reduce the costs of your energy bills.  As we head towards a cold winter, installing these means that you won’t see your energy bills sky-rocket as you have the lights on in the darker evenings.

If you have the time then consider having a clear out of your loft, cupboards and garage.  If you are planning on moving house then this really is a great time to get rid of all your unwanted items.  You can then sell anything you no longer want on eBay.  Gumtree is also another great place to sell items locally.  Most people will come and collect them too, so you don’t need to worry about postage costs.

Shop around

From car insurance to home insurance, don’t immediately accept your automatic renewal.  Use price comparison websites to see if you can get a cheaper deal.  Chances are you can and will be able to save yourself as much as £100 overall.

Secret Santa

If there are a lot of you in your family or friendship group, why not opt for Secret Santa? Set a limit and pick a name from a hat.  That way you only need to buy for one person and everyone gets a substantial present.

There really are a great many ways to save money.  Money that could be used to purchase a new home, buy items for your new home or towards that new car or kitchen.
